Allison Angelo

Hailed as “A fabulous discovery” by the Toronto Star’s John Terauds, Canadian soprano Allison Angelo is emerging as a talented and versatile young singer who is rapidly gaining recognition on the operatic and concert stage. Highlights of her coming season include concerts with the Aldeburgh Connection, Chorus Niagara, Off Centre Music Series, Orpheus Choir of Toronto, St. Cecilia Concert Series and a return to Toronto Operetta Theatre as Kristal in THE BIRD SELLER 

In her 2007/08 season, Ms. Angelo was active in the world of operetta as the leading lady in the Jeunesses Musicales du Canada production of LA VEUVE JOYEUSE, and later, she debuted for Toronto Operetta Theatre as Juliette in THE COUNT OF LUXEMBOURG. In concert, she was heard as the soprano soloist in Rossini’s PETITE MESSE SOLENELLE with the University of Ottawa Orchestra & Choirs and was a guest artist at the Governor General’s Arts Awards Gala. On the recital stage, she made return appearances with both Calgary's Mountainview Concert Series and the St. Cecilia Concert Series in her native Nova Scotia. Ms. Angelo spent her summer as a Vocal Fellow at the prestigious Tanglewood Music Center. 

An alumna of Atelier Lyrique de L'Opéra de Montréal, Ms. Angelo sang the roles of the Governess in THE TURN OF THE SCREW and Belinda in DIDO AND AENEAS with the Atelier, as well as the High Priestess (AÏDA) and Naiade (ARADNE AUF NAXOS) on the mainstage and has returned since as Rose in LAKMÉ. Other operatic performances in recent seasons include Kolombine in I Musici de Montréal's production of Salieri's A LITTLE HARLEQUINADE, and she was guest soloist with l'Opéra d'Avignon in France, Nova Scotia Opera’s New Year’s Eve Gala and L'Opéra de Montréal's 10th Anniversary Gala. After her performance in the title role of Banff’s FILUMENA production, Ms. Angelo returned to Banff to workshop the role of Anna in FORBISHER, the latest Murrell/ Estacio opera. In concert, Ms. Angelo has been a featured soloist with Canadian presenters including the Aldeburgh Connection, the Performing Arts York Region Series, Symphony Nova Scotia and the Nova Scotia International Tattoo.  

A semi-finalist in the Montreal Symphony Competition, she has been a prizewinner in the Jeunes Ambassadeurs Lyriques competition, a semi-finalist in the Verviers Concour de Chant (Belgium) and an encouragement award recipient in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions. She was awarded the 2006 L'Opéra de Montréal Prize and is a recipient of awards from the Nova Scotia Talent Trust, including the Portia White Award for Voice. Ms. Angelo has appeared on BravoCanada!’s OPERA EASY, and was heard on CBC in l'Opéra de Montréal’s LAKMÉ. 

Ms. Angelo received her Bachelor of Arts in Music and Theatre from Dalhousie University and her Artist Diploma in Voice and Masters of Music in Opera Performance from the University of Toronto where she studied with Jean MacPhail. Other roles include Morgana in ALCINA, Despina in COSI FAN TUTTE, and Lucy in THE BEGGARS’ OPERA. In addition, Ms. Angelo has spent three summers at the Banff Centre in their Opera as Theatre residency.                                                                                                                                                                                               



Joseph Angelo

Toronto born tenor Joseph Angelo began his musical education as a chorister at St. Michael's Choir School, where he also took lessons in piano, organ, and theory.  He earned his Bachelor of Music in Voice Performance as a baritone at the Faculty of Music, University of Toronto, where he appeared as both Marco and Dr. Spinelloccio in the U of T Opera Division's production of Gianni Schicchi. He has also played with Summer Opera Lyric Theatre, in the roles of Leporello and Antonio, and as MacIrton in Boidelieu's La Dame Blanche.  In August 2005, he took part in the Banff Centre's production of John Estacio's Filumena, and also participated in the workshop for the new Estacio/Murrell opera, Frobisher.  As a tenor, Joseph has appeared with the Artists of the Royal Conservatory as Billy in Kurt Weill's Mahagonny Songspiel; as Don Basilio and Don Curzio in Opera York's production of Le Nozze di Figaro; and with Toronto Operetta Theatre as Estragon in their production of Gypsy Violins.  In 2008, he toured Quebec, Ontario, and the Atlantic Provinces with the Jeunesses Musicales du Canada's production of The Merry Widow.  His upcoming projects include performing at the Luminato Festival, in R. Murray Schafer’s The Children’s Crusade.  Joseph is in the voice studio of James Patrick Raftery.
